Description
I get asked about the head to my Raven Costume sometimes, so decided to share this thrown together illustration for those who might find it useful~
Got the idea from this epic Grunt (Mass Effect) cosplay~
It's made by hinging the bottom jaw to the top (which in my mask sat atop my head & far above my eye level), strapping a small sheathe/cone of plastic mesh to my chin, and connecting it to the bottom jaw with a thick/straight piece of wire, so that my own jaw movement would also open & close the Raven beak.
Edit: Oh, and if the bottom jaw is too heavy for the chin sheathe to stay on your chin properly, another piece of elastic that helps support its weight/counteract the downward force helps too, labeled here as "Optional Elastic".
Video that show's my raven mask's movement
As for how I SEE out of the mask? Its a bit hard to tell, but there is an unfeathered area just below the base of the beak. The black fabric I chose was slightly see-through, and I had fairly good vision through that - when the mask is closed, anyways. The area is highlighted in the video as an annotation.
