WIP - Realistic Wings by Sunnybrook1 WIP - Realistic Wings by Sunnybrook1

Well, this has sort of become the splash page for the rest of my tutorial, links are below! :D

Each feather is made out of straightened hanger-wire with two pieces of fabric painted back-to-back over it (think fabric sandwich, with the wire on the inside).

I've added more secondary cover-feathers since these shots, I've replaced the circulation-cutting arm brace with a glove, and I still have to add the arm-hiding fabric/feather combo, but I'm really excited about how these look~

We're getting closer to making this kind of thing without needing the whole arm. Imagine a wing moving in different directions depending on just the fingers alone.

Yeah, this seems to happen every year as Halloween rolls around again, my apologies I guess? :shrug: Is it your feed on deviantArt or somewhere else? I'm always interested to know where people see it first.

That said, there's nothing stopping me from improving or adding to this - any suggestions?

That is absolutely stunning. Maybe if people can follow this tutorial there will be a lot less getting winged in the back of the head by someone with huge ass wings that are static and can't be moved while at some sort of convention. This must be spread everywhere to all my cosplayer friends...

Sadly, even these wings can bean people if you aren't careful ^^; but here's hoping, con space is usually tight so its good to have options!

Not supposed to be anyone in particular (also, that character wasn't around yet when I made this), more a proof of concept for anything with larger-than-life feathers and/or wings. :thumbsup:

Thanks man, I really do appreciate it, I am (like all people) trying to become a better person, I never intended to offend anyone, hell, the original comment was about me trying to contain myself.
I'm glad I came across such a wise person as you and not some jackass telling me how much of a dick I am.

:shrug: This isn't the first time I've gotten a joking or offensive comment about my weight. I usually don't respond to them, but I guess it finally built up & I felt the need to reply to this one in some way.

I'm perfectly fine, but it's true others may take it the wrong way. Don't think you deserved the rant above, though, so hopefully TheBanterBoss won't mind me hiding it. ^^;

I believe that you're a wonderful human being, and I trust you probably feel like you've made a mistake, but such a joke is rather rude and may hurt this beautiful and talented woman's feelings. It's one thing to make jokes like this that can be used for taste (all jokes, in my opinion, are essential for comedy as a whole, offensive or not), it's another to just say it with no context. There's no reason for you to say that as a comment, no reason why you should've said this, and no reason why you can't fix the error by taking it down. All in all, the way you did it sounds less funny and more cruel; like you chose to ignore what the art was about and decided to pick at something delicate. Again, I'm sure you meant no distaste, and we all lose tact sometimes, but please do remember that words have more power than you know and it could be hurtful to say the wrong thing, especially at the wrong time.

How long to design, or to make? ^^; Designed on & off for a few months/years during my free time in college.

As for how long a full pair takes to make, I'd give it 40-50 hours of solid work, plus another 12-14 hours for the time it takes for the feathers to dry after painting or gluing them.
